Photograph of “MRS ISOBEL VIOLET PRICE.  BORN IN NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND ON THE 25TH OF APRIL, 1876. 

MRS PRICE FIRST CAME TO AUSTRALIA AS A YOUNG GIRL OF 18 YEARS, STAYING ON THURSDAY ISLAND FOR APPROX. 6 MONTHS WITH HER SISTER.  SHE THEN TRAVELLED TO PALMERSTON TO STAY WITH ANOTHER SISTER MRS GOODMAN. 

MRS PRICE MET AND MARRIED MR FRED PRICE IN THE WESLEY CHURCH PALMERSTON ON THE 5TH OF MARCH 1898.  THEY HAD 2 CHILDREN, HILDA AND IVY BORN IN PALMERSTON, BUT IVY DIED OF MENENGITIS JUST AFTER MRS PRICE AND THE TWO GIRLS ARRIVED IN ADELAIDE, 1901. 

MR PRICE WAS UNABLE TO FOLLOW HIS FAMILY UNTIL THE END OF 1903.  AFTER MR PRICE DIED IN AUGUST OF 1924, MRS PRICE AND FOUR OF THEIR REMAINING FIVE CHILDREN; HILDA REMAINED IN ADELAIDE, TWO EARLIER CHILDREN HAD PASSED AWAY.  LEFT ADELAIDE TO RETURN TO STUART TOWN AND THEN ONTO WOOLA DOWNS AND HARPERS SPRINGS STATION. 

WITH JUST HERSELF, HER FOUR CHILDREN AND SOME FAITHFUL ABORIGINAL HELPERS, SHE BUILT BOUGH SHEDS, AND LATER A HOUSE, SHEPHERDED SHEEP AND GOATS. 

WHEN HER SON RON WAS KILLED IN ALICE SPRINGS, MRS PRICE CAME TO LIVE IN THE TOWN ON RAILWAY TERRACE.  SHE DIED IN 1957.  ALF AND PEARL ARE THE REMAINING CHILDREN LIVING IN ALICE SPRINGS.”
