She contributed many natural history articles to Sydney papers and journals becoming the first Australian born woman novelist when she published Gertrude the Emigrant: A Tale of Colonial Life (“by an Australian Lady”) in 1857.

Description: Atkinsonia ligustrina Threatened species: ROTAP: 2RCa Erect shrub 1–2 m high. Occurs in woodland and heath in exposed sites, a single plant often parasitic on the roots of many nearby plants. Confined to a small area in the Blue Mountains.
