First person to discover the virus that causes gastroenteritis.

Additional Information:

1996 - Received Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in Queen's Birthday Honours in recognition of service to medical research, particularly for her contributions to the understanding of gastroenteritis in children.

2001 - Inducted in the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.

2011 - Received the Prince Mahidol Award (by the Thai Royal Family) for outstanding achievement in public health.

2013 - Received the Florey Medal for her discovery of rotavirus and subsequent work helping to develop a vaccine.

2019 - Received Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in Queen's Birthday Honours for "eminent service to global child health through the development of improved vaccines for paediatric gastroenteritis, and to medical research".
