1989 - First indigenous woman to head a local government council. She was first voted onto Halls Creek Shire Council in Western Australia in 1989 and was President for seven years. This Kimberley Kija woman has always been a community minded person, and has promoted Indigenous culture and been an advocate for indigenous issues.
