Mona Margaret McBURNEY

Special Achievements:

Australia's first music graduate, was the first woman to have her opera, The Dalmatian, composed 1905, performed in public at the Playhouse, Melboure, 25-26 June 1926.

1896 - Became the fourth Bachelor of music graduate, and the first such woman graduate from an Australian university.
1926 - First woman to have her opera The Dalmatian performed in its entirety.

Additional Information:

1881 - She matriculated to the University of Melbourne.
1892 - Enrolled as a music student, University of Melbourne.
1902 - Her Ode to Dante was awarded an honourable mention by the Societa Dante in Rome and was subsequently performed throughout Australia and New Zealand.
1905 - Composed the opera, The Dalmatian.
1907 - She conducted Una Bourne and a women's orchestra in her Northern Ballad.
