Isabelle Bruce REID

Special Achievements:Australia's first and the world's second female registered veterinarian, she received her diploma from Australia's first Veterinary College in 1906, prior to the establishment of university Veterinary Science departments. She was the first and only woman graduate from that school and was granted full registration on 21 November by the profession's first regulating body --- the Veterinary Surgeons' Board of Victoria. She set up practice in the Melbourne suburb of North Balwyn and worked as an honorary Veterinary Surgeon at North Melbourne's Lost Dogs' Home.
1906 - First and only woman to graduate from the first veterinary school in Australia, W. T. Kendell's Melbourne Veterinary College.
1906-23 - Established her own practice in Whitehorse Road, Balwyn, Melbourne, Victoria.
Additional Information:Owned "Blossom Park," Bundoora, Victoria and bred Irish Wolfhounds and established a purebred Jersey cattle stud.
