Deborah Jane WARDLEY

Special Achievements:

The first woman pilot to captain a domestic airline in Australia (Ansett), she made her maiden commercial flight co-piloting a Fokker Friendship from Alice Springs to Darwin on 22 January 1980, and was the first Australian woman to fly an international service route, co-piloting a Boeing 747 jet from Sydney to Vanuatu in 1985. Originally rejected by Ansett, she had lodged a complaint with Victoria's newly appointed Equal Opportunity Board in 1978, the first contested case of sexual discrimination in that state.
