Special Achievements:

1997 - Australia's first female Ambassador to United Nations --- the most senior external appointment ever given to a woman in Australian Foreign Service. 2001 - Made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), for her distinguished contributions to Australia's international relations.
2001-04 - High Commissioner to India. 2005-08 - Ambassador to France, and non-resident Ambassador to Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco. 2008-14 - Governor of Queensland.
2011 - Appointed a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia “for eminent contribution to the people of Queensland, and to Australia's international relations through senior diplomatic representational roles and as a key contributor to initiatives of the United Nations.”
2014 - Awarded Honorary Fellow membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.

Additional Information:

1967 - Received Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours, at the University of Queensland.
She has been awarded honorary Doctorates by The University of Queensland, Griffith University, and the Queensland University of Technology.
1968 - Joined the Australian Foreign service.
1994 - The University of Queensland named her as the first woman Alumnus of the year.
