To celebrate the achievements of Australian women over the last 100 years, the Women's Museum of Australia created two identical Signature Quilts. One is displayed at the Museum in Alice Springs while the other was raffled.
Each quilt is made up of calico squares, all signed by Australian women who have recorded firsts or those who have made significant achievements within their field, with alternate patches of patterned fabric, appropriate to the signatory’s field.
"In September 1988, three trailblazing women - Michelle Field, Jacqui Segger and Virginia Forbes (née Bell) - graduated alongside twenty men from the Victoria Street Training College. They were the first women to become MFB firefighters."
