Special Achievements
Elected Acting Chairman of South Australia's Public Service Board in 1983, this was the first time a woman had held such office in Australia. She was also South Australia's (and the country's) first woman Ombudsman when appointed in 1985; the first female member of the QANTAS board from 1983-1985 and the first woman Commissioner for Equal Opportunity (1975).
In 2004, Mary Beasley was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for service to public sector administration in South Australia and to the community, particularly as an executive member of organisations in the fields of the arts, education, health and community celebrations.
