Wel­come to our unique and com­pre­hen­sive reg­is­ter of wom­en’s achieve­ments in Australia.

Estab­lished in 1993, it is the only archive in Aus­tralia ded­i­cat­ed to the his­to­ry of women from all walks of life.

Sto­ries of sig­nif­i­cant Aus­tralian women, their achieve­ments and con­tri­bu­tions, are fea­tured in this unique resource ded­i­cat­ed to pre­serv­ing this impor­tant aspect of Aus­tralian his­to­ry. With a focus on pio­neer­ing women and those first in their field, this archive cel­e­brates ordi­nary women who have led extra­or­di­nary lives.

The phys­i­cal Her­Sto­ry Archive holds thou­sands of pho­tographs, media clip­pings, books, audios record­ings, cor­re­spon­dence, objects and ephemera which the muse­um began col­lect­ing in 1993. 

In 2000 we com­menced devel­op­ing the Her­Sto­ry Archive online to make these remark­able wom­en’s achieve­ments acces­si­ble. Explore wom­en’s achieve­ments by just brows­ing or using search terms for top­ics, pro­fes­sions or indi­vid­ual you are inter­est­ed in.

We are con­stant­ly updat­ing and adding infor­ma­tion and wel­come new sub­mis­sions, addi­tions and alterations.
