Our col­lec­tion boasts over 2500 items and we are cur­rent­ly work­ing hard to digi­tise objects and make them acces­si­ble. The col­lec­tion includes a library, archives, objects from the Old Gaol, pho­tographs, objects and ephemera relat­ing to wom­en’s lives in Australia.

WHAT WE COL­LECT

The Wom­en’s Muse­um of Aus­tralia acquires and main­tains a col­lec­tion in the fol­low­ing key areas:

• wom­en’s sto­ries, arte­facts, pho­tographs and books from Aus­tralia, and Aus­tralian women who live abroad
• his­tor­i­cal records, lit­er­a­ture, per­son­al man­u­scripts, sto­ries, and objects relat­ing to women who were first in their field 
• sto­ries, rec­ol­lec­tions, his­tor­i­cal records, art­works and archives relat­ing to the Old Alice Springs Gaol, includ­ing oral his­to­ries of prison life from for­mer staff and inmates
• lit­er­a­ture relat­ing to wom­en’s his­to­ry in Australia

The Wom­en’s Muse­um of Aus­tralia seeks to com­mem­o­rate the achieve­ment of all Aus­tralian women includ­ing those from Abo­rig­i­nal, Tor­res Strait Islander and cul­tur­al­ly and lin­guis­ti­cal­ly diverse backgrounds.
