Ricky Burges was the first woman to head the Perth Zoo, when she became the Zoo's chief executive officer between 1995-1998.

In 1997, Ricky was the Western Australian Businesswoman of the Year. Subsequently, she has been the Director General of the Western Australian Ministry for Culture and the Arts; the Director of Human Resources at the Western Australian Tourism Commission; and President of the Australian Institute of Management. In 2000, she was appointed CEO of the Western Australian Local Government Association (still there in 2018). As well as being on various local government committees, Ricky serves/has served on the Indigenous Implementation Board; the University of Western Australia Urban and Regional Planning Board; REACH Foundation Board; Local Government Insurance Board; and Board of Leadership Western Australia. In 2007, Ricky was awarded the Public Service Medal.
