Special Achievements


Elaine Canty is the first woman sports broadcaster on ABC Radio and Television in Victoria.  She was the only woman in the ABC team covering the 1988 Olympics and, in 1992, was the first woman to anchor Australia-wide Olympic Games coverage, from Barcelona.  Elaine was the first woman appointed to the Australian Football League Tribunal in 1996 (remaining until 2005).  


Additional Information


Elaine has been director of the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne and Athletics Australia (1998-2003); Chairman of the Board for the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and the Queen Victoria Market, and chaired the Melbourne Wholesale Fish Market. Elaine also runs Canty Communications Pty Ltd, a corporate presentations consultancy.


In 2006, she was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women and in 2015 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
