Additional Information
- 1999 - Shirley spent over 20 years as a member of the Gingin West Volunteer Bush Fire Brigage. In addition, she was a volunteer Ambulance Officer with St John Ambulance. Other contributions are counselling at the Hepatitis C Council of Western Australia and forming the Gingin West Brigade Cadets for 11-16 year olds.
- 1999 - Nominated for Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Services, Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia.
- 2001 – Shirley was selected as Australia Day Citizen of the Year for the Shire of Gingin.
- 2001 – She was awarded a Fire and Emergency Services Authority National Medal.
- 2003 - Finalist and winner of the RAC Insurance and the Rotary Club of Whitfords Volunteer Bush Fire Service of Western Australia award.
