Special Achievements
- First Australian female gymnast to win a World Cup Final. This was in Madrid, Spain, on the balance beam.
- 2009 World Championships silver medalist on balance beam and floor and 2010 World Champion on floor. Lauren is only the second Australian woman gymnast to win medals at a World Championship. Her first year as a senior gymnast was in 2007 where she competed in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. At the DTB Cup in Germany, she won a silver medal on the Beam and a bronze medal on the floor. She followed this up by winning silver on the balance beam. Mitchell also took first place in the all-round at the Australian National Championships in Perth, claiming her first National Title. She also won titles on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercises. After two successful days of trial competition in Canberra, Mitchell was included in the 2009 London World Championships team. In October of that year, in the London World Championships she won two silver medals being the highest placing of any Australian female gymnast at a World Championships at that time. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games she won 4 gold and 1 silver medal. Mitchell's success at winning 4 gold medals is a record at the commonwealth games for a female gymnast which she holds jointly with Lori Strong of Canada. During the 2010 October World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam she also won gold.
Additional Information
- In 2010 trained at the Western Australian Institute of Sport and is studying for a degree in biomedical science at the University of Perth.
