Special Achievements
- Dorothy began painting in 1987. Her artist sister Eunice Napangardi introduced her to it.
- 1991 - Dorothy won the Best Painting in European Media and 8th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art (NATSIA) Award, for Best Painting in Western Media. She had the honour of being the 2nd indigenous artist to be given a solo survey exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney that traced 11 years of her painting career.
- 1998 - She was awarded the Northern Territory Art Award.
- 1999 - She was "Highly Commended" at the 16th NATSIA Art.
- 2001 - Dorothy won the coveted Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award, overall category, for a black and white work, Salt on Mina Mina.2002 - There was a major survey of her work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
- 2009 - Dorothy was listed as one of the 50 Most Collectable Artists by the Australian Art Collector magazine.
Additional Information
- She is regarded as one of the leading artists of the contemporary Aboriginal Art movement. Her works (i.e., paintings and prints) are in all national collections within Australia, such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria. They have been exhibited widely in international collections including the MET New York, Germany, the Netherlands, and the USA and are in numerous private public collections.
