• Pioneer of the Western Australian 'Group Settlement Scheme'.  They pioneered a bush block in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, i.e., created a dairy farm from 110 acres of thick Jarrah forrest, all done with hand tools and horses.  Mrs. Thorne and her husband were the only settlers to come to their block and stay with it until retirement in the late 1960s.
