On the front lower section of the skirt there is a heavy relief applique of material and beads featuring a richly textured and coloured design of Australian flora including wattle, waratah, banksia, and flannel flowers. The dress was worn by Miss Australia 1961, Tanya Verstak, for the 'national costume' judging at the 1962 International Beauty Congress held in Long Beach, California.
